Petersen Specials.
The reasons for having a Petersen Special are as varied as the owners themselves. Reliability, safety, compatibility with the demands of modern traffic, price, and quality of finish are just some of the factors quoted to us. One of our Speed Sixes was bought by a vintage Bentley collector "to drive in"!
At current vintage Bentley prices, many potential buyers tend to analyse their own driving skills and limitations and have no desire to take part in all the tall stories of 'difficult gearboxes' and 'narrow misses with poor brakes'.
The Petersen Specials are classic recreations using period parts and built to authentic coachwork patterns and dimensions of the 1920s. They are therefore not 'original' in the strictest sense of the word, but then how many so-called original cars are? At Petersen Engineering the cars are built on an original 1930s Bentley or Rolls Royce 20/25 chassis and supplied with an original registration number and documents. The new bodywork, windscreen, footplates, exhaust, etc., are to be found on many restored 'original' Bentleys. We know that for a fact because in many cases Petersen Engineering supplied them.
